A DJ set photographer in Brixton has a tricky subject: someone standing behind a box, mostly still, in low light. On 14 February 2026 I shot DJ Lezcano’s set in Brixton, and the whole challenge is making a live DJ look as dynamic as the room feels. A DJ isn’t jumping around a stage, so the energy has to come from the crowd, the light, and the moments a set builds. Below is how I photograph a DJ set so it looks like the night sounded.
How do you make a DJ behind the decks look dynamic?

With Lezcano in Brixton I worked angles that put the crowd in the picture behind the decks, so the set reads as a shared moment rather than one person and some equipment.

A promo shoot is controlled. A live set is caught. During a real set you can’t direct anything, so it’s all about timing and reading the room. The trade-off is honesty, these images prove the artist actually moves a crowd.
Both have their place, and many DJs want live shots precisely because they can’t be faked.
