the approach
A plain studio backdrop is clean, but it tells you nothing. An environmental portrait does the opposite. By photographing someone in their own space, surrounded by the tools and mess and detail of what they do, you get an image with context and character built in.
These are my favourite portraits to make. Think a chef in the heat of their kitchen, a maker at the bench, or a founder in the office they built from nothing. I light it to feel natural to the place, direct the person so they are at ease, and come away with something that reads as real rather than staged.

Environmental portrait sessions start at £250 given the extra planning and lighting on location. For press and commissioned work I quote per brief. I will send an exact figure. Send the details through the form and I will come back with a clear figure the same day.
