Mums against Donk Rave Photography
Photo and Video for MAD
I can’t remember exactly how long ago it was, but it feels like both an eternity and yesterday that I shot MAD at The Egg in Central London. Mums, the brainchild of Alterium, is genuinely one of my favorite events I’ve ever attended. The Mothership Rave was so much fun, and I absolutely loved the Doctor Who-inspired visuals that kept sneaking into my photos throughout the night.
My main job was to photograph the DJs, which is something I’m really passionate about. I feel like the artist photographer is often overlooked or not brought to raves, since most of the time events focus on hiring a crowd photographer. However, unless you get a photo of yourself, it can be disappointing for ravers who came to see a specific DJ they love. Not seeing them highlighted can make the experience feel incomplete, especially when their set was unforgettable.
This event was a collaboration between Jungals and Gays (I hope I spelled that right), and I popped upstairs to the Gals n Gays section and loved it just as much as downstairs. The energy, the community, and the music blended together perfectly. Being a rave photographer is always such a fun experience because you get to meet so many different people when they’re expressing themselves through their best looks and outfits.
There were so many DJs to photograph, but my personal favorite was Scottish Gabber Punk, who did a live set that completely lit up the room. I’m still not sure if that technically counts as a live performance or a DJ set, but it was incredible to capture either way. Another highlight was Nice n Spicy, who brought an insane amount of energy to the stage. The Church of Donkology banner hanging over their shoulder was such a funny and iconic touch, and it added a playful feel to every shot I took.
The entire night was amazing. For what started as a smaller event, it truly felt huge. The energy, the people, and the atmosphere made it one of those nights that remind me why I love Queer Rave Photography so much. I adored capturing every little moment and can only hope the future holds more events like this one.
Shooting London Rave Photography in venues like The Egg always leaves me tired but full of energy. There’s something special about Central London’s rave scene and how it brings together people from so many different backgrounds. As a Queer Rave Photographer, I love being able to document those moments of joy, expression, and connection that make each event unique. Every photo tells part of that story, and I can’t wait to capture more of London’s vibrant nightlife in the future.
